2023 CR-V exhaust roar

I have just acquired a CR-V first registered in April 2023.
On a first run out on a motorway there was a distinct change in the noise of the engine/exhaust while accelerating. It is best described as a roar and was only present while accelerating.
Is this unusual?

That sounds the same as my HR-V. If the engine is the same design (but bigger) as that used in the Jazz and HR-V then it's a 16 valve engine. Below about 3000 rpm only one inlet valve per cylinder is used to help better fuel mixing and efficiency. Above about 3000 rpm the second set of inlet valves are used which increases the power at the expense of efficiency and with more power comes more noise.

My theory might be wrong, but that behaviour is a Honda engine characteristic and I consider it to be a useful reminder that the engine is running less efficienctly. This video explains the e:HEV operation:
