I have owned a 2017 HR-V for the past couple of years and a couple of things are niggling me so I'm hoping the forum can help or offer any advice.

First off, the stop/start. It doesn't work, whenever I pull up and put the car in neutral I get an A/C symbol with a line through it. Very, very occasionally it does work but has no rhyme or reason to it. The last time it worked was after it had been parked up for 2 weeks but never works after a motorway journey.

Secondly, the electronic hand brake. I recently discovered that I can switch on the handbrake using the switch in the centre consul so that the brake is automatically applied when I come to a stop, lovely feature which I use whenever I remember to switch it on. Is there any way that I can have this permanently switched on without having to initialise it before every journey?

Lastly, the automatic main beam. Love how it works BUT if I flash an oncoming car, to allow them out of a junction for example, the automatic main beam switches off. Is this a quirk or can I stop it from happening?

Thanks in advance for any help or advise.

Most people would wish they were in your position regarding the stop/start function it is universally hated and deemed to be a complete waste of time and money as it does not save fuel.

The button you refer to is 'auto brake hold' and no, there is no way of having it permanently switched on. It should remain active all the time having started up, until you switch off the ignition. Then on restarting, it's default is OFF.

Main beam. I can't comment I'm afraid as none of my 8 Hondas have had this function. My Current car (Kia) can disable it by an extra pull on the flash lever.
Hopefully another member with experience of this function will be able to assist.

As far as stop start, the car reads battery levels at the start of every journey, if the battery is not good it will not allow stop start.
I found mine played up after a few years, a new battery sorted it straight away. Remember stop start cars need a more expensive battery, I got mine online delivered next day £40 cheaper than anywhere else

To begin with, you shouldn't take it out of drive. Also if there is a demand for A/C (Air Conditioning), it will not switch the engine off.

Secondly, as Topov pointed out, it reads battery levels at the start of every journey. So it it fails to stop because of "battery" (not A/C), then you could try switching the ignition off and back on again. Then the next time it requests that the engine stop, it may work.

You can cancel the operation when you manually change the headlights to high beams. Push the lever forward until you hear a click, or lightly pull the lever towards you to flash high beams. The high beam support system indicator goes off. If you want the high beam support system operation to resume at once, pull and hold the lever towards you for a few seconds

Thanks for all the replies, ColinS, my car is a manual so it's not a case of taking it out of drive, I should of been a bit clearer about this, sorry. Colin Lambert, this is the first car I've had with stop/start, you state that it doesn't save fuel but I thought that is the whole idea of the function? That said, I don't think that replacing the battery is going to save me enough fuel to make it value for money.

Stop/Start is a 'sop' to the green brigade. It has been proved by motoring journals that it makes little or no difference to fuel economy. Similarly the excuse of not supplying a spare wheel is going to make the car more economical, is rubbish. Put one granny in the back and you have lost that advantage. travel with all the windows open, ditto. It is merely a way for the manufacturers to save a few bob, without lowering the price of the car ...equals more profit.
Look at all the bits Honda have dropped recently on various models, Kickable boot lid on certain HR-V models, gone, All sorts of things disappeared from the Jazz range. It is not only Honda, they are all at it.

Have you tried changing your climate control setting, the Auto Idle Stop symbol with AC means that the climate control is in use and that the temperatures have a difference, as per the owners manual description.
