Hello,
This is a bit of an SOS and I am hoping someone can help. I usually lurk on Volvo forums but am hoping the Honda forums are equally as friendly and helpful.

I am based in the UK. My friend has a 2014 CRV in which he has recently replaced the battery. As a consequence of this, the touchscreen Clarion/Honda Navi 08A40-2S6-4100-01 type 9953838 head unit requires a code. The code is not recorded in the folder of manuals, glovebox or anywhere else.

The car was booked into Bristol Honda earlier this week to fix this issue but upon investigation, the dealership said they were unable to decode the radio as the code had previously been changed (doesn’t sound right to me). The car is an ex-lease car so we have no idea what the history of the radio is.

My friend is having a rough time of it at the moment as his wife is being treated for terminal cancer and he is back and forth to the hospice every day as well as looking after their daughter so I’ve offered to help him out and try to get his car radio working.

I have taken the head unit out, so I have the serial number, I also have taken a photo of the car's VIN too. Is anyone out there able to help me get this radio working again, I know it’s a small thing but it would mean the world to my mate if I could get this sorted. Is anyone able to decode the unit from the serial number or point me in the direction of someone who would be able to help?

Thanks for reading

Ben

Hello Ben,
The only thing I can think of os to contact Honda U.K. with vin and serial number. The might be able to help.
The garage may or may not have bothered, ( I am not very trusting of dealerships, specially if they are part of a national group, (Hendy, Caffyn, Bristol Street etc) They often take the easy way out. 'cos they can't be bothered.
If that's no go, it looks like a new unit  Rather than new, try a breaker or Ebay, but make sure it works, obviously.
Good luck.

The Clarion navigation units have a user set PIN, so there are only 2 people who can unlock that unit.
1. The person who was the original owner and set the pin.
2. I believe the unit can be sent back to Clarion and for a fee they will clear the user set PIN, but it does mean sending the unit away to Clarion.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for this info, that's useful. Do you have any more detail about sending it back to Clarion at all?

Thanks in advance

We have a similar issue with my wife's Civic radio, Its a Clarion and we were told recently that Clarion no longer exist so no way to get this unit reset. We are selling the car and feel bad selling it without a working stereo, and to replace it with a more modern touch screen, will cost upwards of £200. Anyone know if Honda are doing anything about this situation?
