Does the Regen do anything?
Had my EnY1 for about 6 weeks and covered about 2500 miles... The regen is actually pretty good, everyone harps on about it being so weak at base level (one arrow so to speak) but most of the time, if you can judge the road ahead fairly well and distances / speed coasting with only a little regen is far more efficient than grinding to a halt with max regen. I use when max regen when I have read the road wrong or when going down steep hills etc. I have an average of 4.1 M/kw over the 2.5k miles so far and often see 4.2 or 4.3 on journeys I don't drive like miss daisy lol but do read the road as best I can and make best use of the regen. That said, I would not complain if Honda gave us one more extra strong setting for occasional use and those steeper hill descents, but you get the extra regen by gently adding brake pedal, so its just a 'ease of use thing' really

I have only ever had Hybrid HR-V & CR-V as far as Honda goes, and the regen on those was pretty perfunctory.
My eNIro (as opposed to Niro EV-the current model) has one pedal driving and it is brilliant.
I agree 100% with Lurch. the most economical way to drive an EV is to coast as much as possible and use the paddles instead of brakes, but you MUST read the road ahead.
Using max regen , grinding to a halt the accelerating aways uses far more juice than coasting and gentle. regen.
Just feel so sorry for you Honda EV drivers that don't have 1 pedal driving
Just out of interest, for e:NY1 owners, how many miles does you battery (68.8 Kw )show available after a 100% charge in this current warm/hot weather? I would be most interested in a comparison with my eNiro (64Kw & 3 years old) shows 305miles (Kia quote 282miles, but many owners can get over 300.
I drove from Poole to Horsham 3 weeks ago on the M27 102 miles there and came back via Hogs back A31 106miles and I had 118 miles left when I got home, using the coasting and regen braking method. Average 4.7mpKw up to national speed limit when possible.

I get around 4.2 Miles/Kwh and on a 100% charge It always shows around 246 miles range (quoted range is 10 miles more at 256) Its pretty accurate from my use. Im pretty sure if I drove like Miss Daisy I could get over 4.5 miles per Kw and that would be around 300 miles range 100% to 0% charge, but it would be a crazy drive trying to get itColin Lambert wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 9:27 am

I don't understand that. Niro battery is smaller than eNY:! and I regularly get 305 mile on a full charge and 256 @80% charge in the summer.
In the depths of winter I get around the Kia quoted level of 282 @100% & 240-ish @80%.
You should not charge constantly at 100% as it will damage the battery. Most public high speed chargers won't go over 80% even if you want them to as high charge rates @100% really does damage the battery.
I only charge to 100% if I am going long distances, which is rare.
Perhaps the discrepancy between the two cars is that Niro has a heat pump & the Honda does not!
Even with a heat pump, use of the A/C really does gobble up the battery, usually 10-15 miles. It will be interesting how much mileage the eNY:1 looses using the A/C in the winter.
I rely on my heated seat and heated steering wheel (and a panting hound ) to keep me warm on cold days.

The main factors would be weight, drive train efficiency, not so much that Honda make less efficient running gear, but compromises are made to enhance reliability/longevity and to sound dampening etc and of course the biggest one is aerodynamics, they wanted the EnY1 to closely resemble other cars in the range. Lesser factors must also be thought about, Honda may well be restricting the full usable range of the battery a little more than the specs suggest! This would give a buffer to the life and performance of the battery to ensure it lasts it warranty range etc too

Thanks Lurch. Interesting.
If eNY:1 is similar to my e:HR-V it is sadly lacking in the sound deadening! It was one of the noisiest modern cars I have owned. i had to go up to the e:CR-V to get peace and quiet!
