My Honda CRV Hybrid ( March 2019) had a serious brake failure a couple of weeks ago. RAC got it to my dealer, Brayley Honda Hendon, who diagnosed Brake Pedal Feel Simulator failure. £2350 to replace. Honda UK will not offer goodwill, as car is over 5 years old. BUT: Honda cars with this problem have been recalled in Japan ( where mine was made). And there are CRV problems in USA. I have registered my complaint with Honda UK. I would welcome advice.

Take a look at this: https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=16448.0.

Is that the same issue?

Exactly the same issue. Seems that the Jazz is particularly affected, but CRVs are as well. Just found this on YouTube:

I’m sure Honda will reject my claim for a completely free replacement, due to age, but I feel I should persist.

Honda CRV electronic pedal feel simulator has failed. My car is 4 years old. Maintained from new by Honda at John Banks, Bury St Edmunds. The cost is an astonishing £2000+ and it would appear that this is a well know n problem with both this model and the Honda Jazz. There has been a recall in Japan for this fault, and the dealers are offering a 40% discount as a goodwill gesture, but nothing is forthcoming from John Banks at present. This is obviously not a good PR move, particularly as they have had extra sales from friends of ours who have bought them on our recommendation. Any thoughts welcome.

Dealers don't seem to be aware of this recall, probably because Honda are still busy finding replacement parts:

Print out the recall and give it to the dealer, or send them the link.

You should not have to pay a penny for a manufacturing fault.

You could raise a complaint via The Motoring Ombudsman
https://www.themotorombudsman.org/complaint-submission

Or the DVSA
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-recalls-and- ... ety-defect

The two most important pieces of advice I can pass on when making a complaint is;

Real Evidence is best evidence. Real evidence is material, tangible evidence such as an object, a tape recording, a computer printout or a photograph.

And no paper, no trail. Ensure all correspondence is in a printable format; letter, email, text, etcetera. Phonecalls lead to 'he said/she said' scenarios and are hard to prove or disprove unless there is an independent secondary source. Follow up any phonecalls with an email or letter stating words to the effect, " further to our telephone conversation on ........., where you stated/informed me....."

Sorry to hear you had that problem. It has just happened to us and interestingly the car is 5 years old. The garage has said they have at least 6 cars in with the same problem and it is a regular issue. It is clearly a design fault and should be recalled. We have been told it will cost around £3,000 which we can't afford at the moment. It is immensely stressful as we need pur car and not what I expected of Honda, I am really disappointed.

It's a manufacturing fault that I would call a latent defect as it takes several years to become a problem. Print out the recall notice and give it to the dealer (or email the link):

HRV recall.jpg

Hi, I just had this issue 2 weeks ago, 2020 HRV Hybrid, SR.

25 Jan 2025 - Problem started. Start the vehicle, cannot disengage hand brake and screen light up with several warnings on screen. We could get it moving again after several restart where the error will go away but sometimes it does not work. This is video of my error https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipM ... b1lw5IUn10

Booked for inspection with Honda for Monday 3 Feb. On Friday 31 Jan could not get it to move. Called Honda if they can tow they said no and I should call RAC to tow to Honda.
On Saturday 1 Feb managed to get it to move and drove to Honda and left it over the weekend so that they can inspect on Monday 3 Feb. Could have fixed by Monday I reckon but I had a dummy OBD installed and I forgot all about it and Honda could not inspect.
Error fixed by Wednesday and collect on Friday 7 Feb as was too busy at work. All fine now. I do not have details what was done but one front wheel had to be remove as mentioned on invoice, invoice also mention recall for brake.

I was charged for inspection, and the error was fixed for free as was informed it is part of a recall. I was not informed of a recall. Honda said it is a new recall. I checked this morning on the recall website entering my VIN number (https://www.honda.co.uk/cars/owners/rec ... dates.html) and this pop up as a recall. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipN ... HDxeGnIwS0
I probably should not have been charged for the inspection, but I was so elated to get the CRV back so did not go any further with it.

Hope this helps anyone out there with same issues. Go do your VIN recall check and book yourself in before issue come on.
